A message to all Tufts faculty:
Tufts Divest has been an active group since October. It is part of a national movement on university campuses to divest from fossil fuel companies. Tufts Divest has collected more than 1000 student signatures, 190 alumni signatures, and most recently an overwhelming TCU Senate resolution all urging the Board of Trustees to divest. The group has met once with the Board of Trustees, and discussions are ongoing. Ultimately political leaders need to act to mitigate climate change – this is the true goal – but divestment is how we can show leadership as an institution.
Faculty support at Tufts is rising rapidly. Professors Julian Agyeman (UEP), Elizabeth Ammons (English), Jonathan Kenny (Chemistry), Paul Joseph (Sociology), Bruce Hitchner (International Relations), and John Durant (Civil Engineering) co-authored a faculty petition in support of divestment. Launching the week of Feb 10th, we gathered a dozen signatures in a few days.
Tufts Divest team members are now reaching out to you – We are eager to have your involvement!
Faculty: check out the petition, and consider signing!
